INDEdward Steichen is represented by Carousel Research. A giant of photography, he pioneered world recognition of photography as art. His work began with the autochrome and flower portraits-one early image of 'The Pond' sold in 2006 for the highest price for a photograph to date, close to 3 million dollars.
INDDuring World wars I and II, he directed aerial photography for the U.S. army and navy. His advertising photography made people see everyday things in new ways and his ground- breaking exhibitions, notably The Family of Man (1955) sharply increased America's admiration for the art of photography. INDHis portraits and architectural photographs are enduring masterworks that raised the standard for generations of photographers starting in the 1880's and continuing today. It is hard to imagine what modern photography would be without Steichen's influence. |
